The Liberties est un quartier populaire de Dublin. Enfant, l’écrivain Susan Howe (née à Boston en 1937) s’y promène avec sa mère. Elle convoque ce souvenir dans un ouvrage éponyme paru en 1983 et constitué de 3 livres dont le deuxième, un poème visuel, se concentre sur 2 personnages féminins évoluant sur une scène de théâtre : Stella, l’amie-élève de Jonathan Swift, et Cordelia, la troisième fille du Roi Lear. En 2013, l’atelier coédite une nouvelle version avec Théâtre Typographique, une maison d’édition spécialisée en poésie. Les bois gravés de Stéphane Bordarier se substituent au second “livre”, d’où le titre Pages Manquantes.

Born in 1953 in Beaucaire (France).
Lives and works in Nîmes.

We first worked together in 1997, after being introduced by publisher Catherine Putman. Since then, one of our most important collaborations has been Dix Paires (2009), a series of woodcuts on thin paper whose matte quality recalls fresco. Bordarier’s exacting standards for a colour’s tone, opacity and matte finish after drying made it of the most difficult and demanding projects we have ever printed.
