Born in 1949 in Zaragoza (Spain). Lives and works in Majorca.
The first of many Spanish artists to work with the shop, Broto began in 1986 and spent several years making highly experimental prints with us. Our collaborations include the series Gesualdo (1992), lyrical brushstrokes on litho stone, and a number of innovative projects in the late 1990s. Fascinated by new technologies, Broto combined digital printing with lithography in Blason, Machine and Sistema (1998-2001), juxtaposing his gestural marks with computer generated drawings — well ahead of their time.
Né en 1949 à Saragosse (Espagne). Vit et travaille à Majorque.
Ce peintre abstrait, proche de Tapiés dans sa jeunesse, est en 1986 le premier artiste d’origine espagnole à pousser la porte de l’atelier. Une collaboration au long cours à travers laquelle s’épanouira son oeuvre imprimé, très expérimental, comme en témoigne la série lyrique Gesualdo (1992), lavis fluides sur pierre lithographique. À la fin des années 90, fasciné par les nouveaux logiciels, il explore l’impression numérique sur calque, transférée ensuite sur une matrice lithographique ; les séries Blason, Machine et Sistema (1998-2001) juxtaposent un geste manuel, libre et translucide, et des images dessinées sur ordinateur.
