The Orsay Days

Invited to move the shop: presses, printers, artists, paper and ideas, the Orsay museum gave us a space in the main hall to work on our everyday projects

Cannes & Jean-Michel Othoniel

At the same time as Orsay, Jean-Michel Othoniel inaugurated his solo show at La Malmaison, the contemporary art center of the city of Cannes, right on the Croisette

We made several new style paintings with him. The first ones with 5 color passes, the most to date for this unusual process we invented years ago

The installation of the Brecht Evens exhibit at the Fine Arts museum of Cherbourg

In June, we installed our own curated show at the Musée Thomas Henry in Cherbourg.

The shop made a concerted effort to imagine how to present all of our collaborations with the Flemish artist. It was a very special process for months.

One of the features of the show was a central installation of a working atelier with proofs hanging from clotheslines, color trials on the walls. And even color swatches with their mixing formula

The museum director, Louise Hallet, invited Brecht Evens to create live in front of the public and in the entrance of the museum, a monumental piece in one day.

Brecht Evens experimented for first time on a large scale his new approach with cut out forms and collaged shapes
Opening at Cherbourg and views of exhibition

The artist and his partner Lucile walk into the show for the first time before opening day

And the artist brings his 6 month old baby girl, Lio

It was a lovely long space where we really made the visitor take a voyage through the artist's mind. We also stressed the role of printmaking throughout.

In the 'shop' space, there was a wall of a great many of his drawings on tracing paper we would transfer to litho plate. On the press, his stone drawing from Orsay museum experience

Large wall paper blowup details of certain prints covered a wall upon which two of our beautiful manière noire lithographs hang

A great feature in a number of showcases was to display the artists source material. In this one books he used as inspiration

And here the game boards he made drawings of

At the end of the expo was a video you could see at a distance of several past interviews of the artist, and working moments and interaction with us at the shop

One of our esteemed colleagues, Théophile Berthemet, litho professor in nearby city of Caen, came several times to perform workshops with members of the public

Théophile made a great success out of the public gatherings
The other Brecht Evens retrospective in Belgium at the same time as Cherbourg

At the same time, same music, different kitchen, we had a vast monographic show of our work with Brecht Evens in the city of La Louvière, in Belgium at the Centre de la gravure et de l'Image Imprimée
